About 400 FORWARD

Did you know black women represent only .03% of licensed architects in the United States?

Underserved and underrepresented kids need to know that the design profession benefits from their skills, talent, and perspectives.

400 FORWARD was launched in 2017 as a comprehensive program to introduce young girls to architecture, provide scholarships and wrap-around services to college students, and pay for study materials and licensing exams for African American women in architecture.

400 FORWARD is a recipient of a $50,000 matching grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in a submission titled “Art & Architecture: Changing our Cities Through Our Youth.” The programs, support, and multi-level scholarships provided by 400 FORWARD aim to position young women to realize their talents in STEAM, and grow the presence of African American women in the profession of architecture through the incorporation of artistic excellence.

“I've realized every challenge I've faced along my journey was meant to be a teaching tool for others. My passion is to be the face I was looking for growing up, and teach kids to be advocates for their communities. ”
